Learning together to be the best we can be.
Working in partnership with apprentice provider, Waterton Academy Trust, we are pleased to be able to offer a brand new opportunity to access a Level 5 Specialist Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship programme commencing in September 2025. This exciting professional development opportunity is for anyone in a TA or similar role who is looking to develop and improve their practice and enhance their own future career opportunities, with potentially a desire to move into a teaching training opportunity.
Studying with us, you will gain a nationally recognised qualification (foundation degree equivalent), learn alongside a group of colleagues and have the support of an experienced tutor, in addition to a school-based mentor to support you through your professional studies.
Teaching assistants play a vital role in supporting pupils to reach their full potential. Our programme of learning helps you to provide the best possible education for the pupils in your care. You will explore educational theories and strategies, taken from the latest educational research, and you will have the opportunity to apply any new learning back in your setting.
Over 24 months, learners will study 10 modules (training days over 10 half-terms), have the opportunity to engage in bespoke high quality professional group discussions, engage with a plethora of evidence informed learning material, develop planning & teaching opportunities in the classroom, in addition to learning skills in coaching & mentoring.
Learners will be supported to develop a portfolio of evidence, with tasks set from each delivery session which allow learners to apply their learning back in the classroom through their off-the-job training time.
Once all learning is complete, an End Point Assessment is arranged. This is made up of an observation and a professional discussion, and is supported by the portfolio.
To join the course, learners need the following:
* As this course is the equivalent standard to a foundation degree qualification, an excellent grasp of the English language is required to access the written content and expectations of the course. In addition, as this course opens up a pathway to a QTS teaching course, candidates need to be aware that they would have to secure GCSE's in English, Maths and Science at grade C/4+ (or equivalent) prior to engaging in any teacher training top up course. It is therefore ideal if candidates already have these to access the L5 course or have a commitment to or are currently working towards them.
