Level 3 Early Years Educator Apprenticeship

Working in partnership with apprentice provider, Waterton Academy Trust, we are pleased to be able to offer an exciting training opportunity for Early Years support staff.

Studying with us, you will gain a nationally recognised qualification (2xA Level equivalent), learn alongside a group of colleagues and have the support of an experienced tutor, in addition to a school based mentor to support you through your professional studies.

The Early Years is a vital part of a child’s education when they develop the cognitive, social and emotional skills that set them up for life. Early years professionals are crucial in helping children develop before starting school. They plan and run education, play activities with children under five years old, and make sure they're safe and happy.

This opportunity is designed to support learners to develop and build upon existing knowledge, skills and behaviours required to effectively care for pre-school children whilst supporting their learning and development.

The cost of the programme is £7000 - free for learners as it is funded by the employer's Apprenticeship levy (there may be a nominal charge of 5% for employers that do not pay the levy or once the levy has been used).

Programme Overview

Over 18 months, learners study the following modules (face to face training modules over 8 half-terms):

Roles and responsibilities, professional behaviour and safeguarding. Introduction
Environment, relationships and curriculum.
Observation, assessment, communication and language.
Effective learning and welfare.
Communication and positive relationships.
Maths and early language acquisition.
SEND and early identification.
Working in Early Years and safeguarding

Learners will be supported to develop a portfolio of evidence, with tasks set from each delivery session which allow learners to apply their learning back in the classroom through their off-the-job training time.

Once all learning is complete, an End Point Assessment is arranged. This is made up of an observation and a professional discussion, and is supported by the portfolio.

Entry Requirements

To join the course, learners need the following:

Valid and eligible residency status
Employer agreement
Currently working as a Teaching Assistant or a similar role
English and Maths at Functional Skills or GCSE level - desirable although not essential*
Paediatric First Aid or Emergency Paediatric First Aid Level: 3**

* As this course is the equivalent standard to 2 A Level qualifications, a good grasp of the English language is required to access the written content and expectations of the course.

** Apprentices must successfully complete a first aid qualification in line with the requirements of the EYFS Framework (Annex A): Early years foundation stage (EYFS) statutory framework - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
